Though I find short winter days tiresome, I love the chance to take a few minutes late in the afternoon to watch the light fade over the mountains to the west and settle in for what I expect will be a quiet evening.

The kitchen faucet is repaired, and the bathroom faucet has been replaced. Next up: Leaking dishwasher sump. Parts arriving tomorrow.

We put our tree up a little earlier than usual this year.

Because it is 2020, and we are only eating at home, and not having anyone come to the house, of course the dishwasher has a leak.
(The good news: It’s a slow enough leak that it didn’t destroy the floor, and it appears to be in a component at the bottom of the machine that can probably be replaced.)

I don’t love the darkness of impending winter, but I do like the way the afternoon light falls.

At this time last year, we were finishing a visit to Monterey and Pacific Grove, California. No travel for us this year—but under the circumstances, we’re okay with that.

The other day, I was remembering the mid-2000s, when I enjoyed reading blogs–even had one, for a while–and getting news through a RSS reader instead of someone’s algorithm or even browsing site front pages. Then I remembered: that stuff’s all still out there. Glad I remembered.
